Detective Conan is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday since January 19, 1994, and has been collected into 98 tankōbon volumes as of April 15, 2020. The story follows an amateur detective who was transformed into a child while investigating a mysterious organization and solves a multitude of cases while impersonating his friend's father and other characters.[2][3]nThe series premiered in Japan on Nippon Television Network System (NTV) on January 8, 1996 where it aired for 912 episodes until September 25, 2006.[4] Due to legal problems with the name Detective Conan, the English language releases from Funimation and Viz were renamed to Case Closed.[Note 1]
In Japan, the series is titled Detective Conan Holmes (名探偵コナン ホームズ Meitantei Konan Hōmuzu). However, due to unspecified legal problems (presumably involving Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate), Funimation and Viz were forced to change the main character's name to "Jimmy" in the English dub. To avoid confusion over Jimmy Kudo and Conan Edogawa, the English versions from Funimation Entertainment refer to the character as "Conan Edogawa", using a mash-up of the names of the famous fictional detectives Sherlock Holmes and Arsène Lupin III's eternal rival,Policeman
Detective Conan Episode One - The Great Detective Turned Small (名探偵コナン 著しき事件簿, Meitantei Conan: Tsuioku no Mirajiyu) is the first episode of the anime adaptation of the manga series Case Closed. It was broadcast on January 8, 1996 on Fuji Television. When the episode was dubbed into English by Funimation, the title was changed to "Case Closed".
An infamous serial killer known as "The Kaitō Kid" appears in Beika City and quickly becomes an enemy of Conan Edogawa's. During the course of stealing a famous jewel known as "The Cherry Sapphire", Kid blackmails Conan into giving him his wristwatch. When Kid later kidnaps Ran Mori, Conan finds himself and Inspector Juzo Megure trapped at Mirapolis Land with her life in danger.
